🌍 Cultures of Democracy: Commonwealth Leadership, Grassroots Activism and International Norms📅 Conference Date: Late 2025 (Hybrid Format)📬 Submit Abstracts by: 30 June 2025📝 Full Papers Due: 1 November 2025📍 No Registration Fee | In-Person Catering Provided In 2025, the Commonwealth of Nations marks two key milestones:🔹 60 years since the creation of its Secretariat🔹 30 years since the launch of the Millbrook Action Programme on the Harare Declaration At a time when democracy and international norms face growing threats from populist regimes, disinformation, and weakened rule of law, this conference invites scholars and practitioners to critically examine the role of the Commonwealth in promoting democratic governance and international cooperation. 🔎 Key Themes: Definitions of Democracy – What do Commonwealth policies and declarations reveal about its democratic vision? Mediation and Consensus-Building – How has the Commonwealth used its “good offices” to resolve conflict? International Norms & Hegemony – What role can the Commonwealth play in global governance amid rising hegemonies? We welcome interdisciplinary contributions from fields including history, political science, law, sociology, development studies, geography, diplomacy, and international relations.
